Dermatology

If you’ve ever had a rash, allergic reaction or other type of skin problem, you know how unpleasant an experience it can be – the itchiness, the pain, the annoyance. Our animal companions can suffer from many of the same dermatological problems that we humans do, with many of the same symptoms of pain and discomfort which can ultimately affect their quality of life. If you’ve noticed that your pet has been scratching a lot, biting at a particular area of his or her body, or if you can visibly see a potential problem with your pet’s skin, Vineyard Veterinary Hospital can help. We offer professional pet dermatology services to identify, diagnose and treat a wide variety of skin disorders to help reduce or eliminate the problem once and for all.

Our veterinarians are knowledgeable and experienced in all aspects of pet dermatology and will work diligently to determine exactly what is causing your pet’s skin problem so we can begin an appropriate course of treatment in a timely manner. Depending on the diagnosis, we may treat the problem using a variety of methods, including topical creams, oral medications, supplements or a combination of these. We may also recommend making some changes to your pet’s home environment, such as changing his or her diet and eliminating certain materials from your household. In many cases, just making a few simple changes at home can eliminate the problem altogether.

Some of the dermatological problems that we can provide assistance with include:

  • Allergies
  • Parasite Infections
  • Skin Cancers
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Hormonal Disorders
  • Nail Diseases
  • Ear Infections

We know you work hard to make sure your pet is healthy on the inside, but what about the outside? If you suspect that your pet may be suffering from a problem with his or her skin or ears, don’t wait another moment. Let our experienced doctors get to work developing a solution that will help your pet live a more comfortable life.

I had to take my senior dog in for an emergency, the staff was outstanding as I really didn't think my baby was coming home. They were so understanding and kind!! This is the only place I would take my fur baby to. Thank you for your excellent service and compassion.

In the last 10 years Dr. Totman has cared for all of my fur babies with expertise and compassion that is unparalleled in Temecula. The happiest day is when you get your pet, the saddest day is when you say goodbye to your pet. And with all the things that happen to your pet then and in between, you want expert care in a family-owned environment vs. a corporate sales-oriented one. No one wants to think of that worst day. When that day comes though, as it did for me this week, you want a vet and staff who is sensitive to your pet's needs, comfort, and your grief. You want a vet who loves his patient, and you get that with Dr. Totman and his staff.

We lost our Koufax today, after losing Sandi in March. They both lived 16 wonderful years and were a part of our family almost from the time Ellen and I got married.
The house seems empty and it will be a long while before the sadness wanes, but their memories will always bring smiles to us.

Sandi and Koufax were both taken care of until their last day by the amazingly compassionate staff at Vineyard Veterinary Hospital. Even at their passing, Ellen and I and our dogs felt that we could not have been in better hands.
If in need of someone to care for your dog or cat, I highly recommend Dr. Totman, Joan, Verenice, Ashley and the rest of the staff at Vineyard.
