Dentistry

Did you know that dental disease is one of the most commonly diagnosed medical conditions in adult dogs and cats? In fact, it’s something that affects the vast majority of four-legged family members. Yet as common as this condition is, it’s also quite serious. If left untreated, dental disease can spread beyond your pet’s mouth and cause serious problems throughout the entire body, including disease of the heart, liver and lungs. It can even shorten your companion’s life. That’s why pet dentistry is so important – both professionally and at home. By staying on top of your companion’s oral health, you can effectively reduce or even eliminate the risk of your pet developing dental disease, ultimately extending and improving their quality of life.

Vineyard Veterinary Hospital offers complete dental care services to both prevent oral health problems, as well as treat and manage those that are already present. Our staff is skilled and experienced in all aspects of professional pet dentistry, from dental exams to cleanings and polishing of the teeth. We are also prepared to treat whatever dental problem your pet may already be suffering from. Dental disease and other oral health problems can be treated a variety of ways, from antibiotics to the extraction of diseased teeth and more. We’ll work with you to determine the best course of action to address and manage your pet’s dental care in the most effective way possible.

Lastly, we’ll focus on including you as an active participant in your pet’s dental health care. Annual visits aren’t always enough to keep dangerous plaque, tartar and bacteria at bay. It’s up to you to step in and pick up where our professional dental care leaves off by brushing your pet’s teeth daily and using treats and chews that are designed to support healthy teeth and gums. We’ll be happy to provide you with advice, guidance and demonstrations to make sure you have everything you need to help your pet achieve a clean, fresh smile for life!

Dr Totman and his staff saved my baby boy. His organs had begun to shut down at 8 months old and for over a month I thought I would lose him. If it wasn't for this office, he would not be here to bring me joy every single day. The staff here is professional, beyond caring & go above and beyond the extra mile. They take care of your furbaby as if it were their own. I received regular updates when he needed to stay at their office and when I got him home, they called every other day to check up on him. I felt completely confident they were taking the best care of my baby.
I am a fiercely loyal customer once I find an office I can trust and had been taking my furbabies to the same vet my entire life, but I can't say I'd go back to them. Dr Totman and his staff have gained a customer for life. If you take your furbaby anywhere, take them to Dr Totman.
